Michael Okruch, 93, formerly of Warren, PA, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Rouse Warren County Home.
Born on October 8, 1921 in Sheffield, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew and Katherine Piskor Okruch. On October 16, 1948 at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Warren, PA, he married Adelaide Juliano, who died on July 12, 2011.
Mike was a 1939 graduate of Sheffield High School. He was employed with the former Penelec as a truck driver with the line department and retired as a meter reader in 1983. He was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church and was a charter member of the Sheffield Vets Club and the Warren Elks Lodge. Mike served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a motor machinist mate 1st class, serving in the South Pacific in the invasions of Tarawa, Kwajalien, Enewetok, and Guam. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific 3 Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mike is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Pete, Nick, Matt, and Andy Okruch, and two sisters, Eva Simones and Ann Gustafson.
Friends may call at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue West, Warren, PA, on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00pm with Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Sheffield/Clarendon V.F.W.
