Maria Barbara Atkins Beach, age 90, of Warren, PA passed away
at home on Thursday, September 4, 2014. She was born on May 7, 1924 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Anna Detoria Quaglia. Maria resided in Warren most of her life and had owned and operated Maria’s Cake Shop of N. Warren, where she learned this trade through the Warren Vocational School. She had also owned and operated the former Rainbow Laundry Mat., and was a greeter at K-Mart.
She had previously worked at GTE Sylvania in the 1950’s. She lived a full life, loved to entertain and enjoyed shopping, cooking Italian food, and baking . Maria was a very loving, kind mother and friend. She was a great seamstress who made many clothesfor her children, grandchildren and friends.
Maria is survived by her three sons, David Paul Atkins and his wife, Brenda, of Cape Canaveral, FL, Douglas Allen Atkins and his wife, Jane, of St. Croix, Virgin Island, Alan George Beach of Warren, PA, , two daughters, Paulette “Paula” Atkins of Warren, PA, Laura Lynn Marsh and her husband, Larry, of Rochester, NY, 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and one sister, Rosie Simioni of Miami, FL., several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her first husband, her true love, Paul Emory Atkins who died in 1962, her second husband, Harold Beach who died in 2009, a son, Kenneth Thomas Atkins who died in January of 1990, two grandsons, Daniel and Paul Hugh Atkins, and a brother, Frank Quaglia.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 6 to 7 P.M. A funeral and committal service will follow at 7:00 P.M with Rev. Mark Rusnak, Chaplain of Asera Care Hospice, officiating. Interment will be in Fentonville Cemetery, Fentonville, N.Y.
