Ethel C. Anderson, 91, of Warren, PA passed away Sunday afternoon, July 21, 2013 at Warren Manor Nursing Home. Born on December 22, 1921 in East Hickory, PA she was the daughter of the late Johnathan Elmer and Mary Herman Combs. On October 21, 1943 in East Hickory, PA she married Robert “Bob” Anderson, who died on September 15, 2003. Ethel was a resident of Warren for most of her life and was employed with the former Solar Electric making invasion tubes during World War II. She had also been employed with Sylvania and New Process Co. Ethel was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a junior choir helper and was a member of the funeral luncheon committee. She was also a member of the Warren Women’s Christian Club, the Alaskan Children’s Circle and the Frewsburg (NY) American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Ethel had been a member of the PTA and was a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was known for her personality and for her heart of gold. She could strike up a conversation with anyone. Ethel loved her family and enjoyed her grandkids baseball games, cooking, baking, canning, gardening and loved visiting with neighbors and helping others. Ethel is survived by three daughters, Gayle Toner of Warren, PA, Kimberley M. Hawley of Penfield, NY, Lynda (Randy) Grey of Frewsburg, NY, , and, seven grandchildren, William W. (Sandrita) Toner, II of Columbia, MD, Susan Toner Hoover of Erie, PA, Brandon M. Hawley, Mitchell Hawley, Pierce G. Hawley, all of Penfield, NY, Kyle A. Grey and Connor R. Grey, both of Frewsburg, NY, one great-grandson, Ronin Toner of Columbia, MD and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by three brothers, Jonathan Elmer Combs, William “Boots” F. Combs, John F. Combs, and four sisters, Mary Firster, Mabel Holtz, Nettie Jane Combs and Elizabeth Kingston. Friends may call from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2013 at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA using the rear entrances. Friends may also call on Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Pennsylvania Avenue East and Prospect Street, Warren, PA from 12 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Kevin Haley, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
