Charles Ellsworth “Chuck” Franklin, 78, of Warren, PA, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1937 in Warren, PA, a son to the late Willard and Louise Knopf Franklin. After graduating in 1956 from Warren Area High School, he served the next 4 years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Detector, MSO-429. Upon returning to Warren he went to work at the Warren State Hospital in the maintenance Department, retiring as a paint foreman after 28 years.
Chuck loved working in his work shop making stools, tables and anything he could do with his hands. He was very knowledgeable in everything from building a house; repairing, plumbing, electrically and painting. He took pride in everything he did and nothing was too much for him to do. Chuck loved to hunt in his earlier years and was an avid golfer up until his illness. He loved traveling in his RV over the years with his family and granddaughter.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marlene Manning Franklin, a granddaughter, Samantha Franklin of Cary, NC, who was also the love of his life, a brother, Freeman (Jackie) Franklin and a sister, Gloria Hancock, of Warren, PA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott C. Franklin in 1998, a daughter, Sherri Franklin Crissman in 2002, and a sister, Joanne Wiltsie.
Per the family’s request, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA, with Pastor Allan Jones of the Cable Hollow Church in Russell, PA, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and receptionists at the Warren Cancer Care Center for their love, smiles and support during our journey. One of my fondest summer memories of my youth was the Summer I spent with Chuck and the rest of the paint crew at Warren State Hospital. A great time with a great group of guys. My condolences.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Chuck was a great guy. I knew Chuck in high school (I graduated in 1955) and worked with Willard, his Dad, in the electrical department at Warren State Hospital for many years. I knew his Granddad Archie, his Mom, sisters and brother. I moved to New England in 1970 and with time, lost touch with many of my Warren friends, but often thought about Chuck and his family. I wish you well.
Marlene,
My thoughts and prayers have been with you during these says of sorrow. I’m praying you will find comfort in the memories you hold in your heart.
Sherry
