Our sweet mother joined her husband and all her family in heaven, on May 2, 2018, following complications from a fall. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice Miller Beer and LeRoy Miller, her brothers, Fred, Harold, and Glenn, her daughter-in-law, Judy Rice and her beloved husband, Donald.
She leaves behind her children, Dawn (John Blanding), Kim, and Beth (Ralph) Bush, her wonderful grandchildren, Lee Rice, Elyse (Ryan) Seal, Kyle (Mindy) and Leah Bush, her sweetest great grandchildren: Ryleigh, Spencer and Trenton Rice; Ayranna and Owen Seal; and Hannah Bush.
Ruth retired as the Cafeteria Manager at Irvinedale Elementary School after 25 years of service. She loved children and loved to cook so it was a perfect match.
If you never tasted a pie, cookies, cake or other sweet confection from Ruth’s kitchen, you missed a yummy treat. She was a kind, caring worrier. If she didn’t have one of us to worry about, then she’d worry about something for you. She was a long-standing member of Covenant United Methodist Church. She volunteered for many organizations. Ruth loved to square dance, travel, garden, knit and do tiny counted-cross stitch. Most of all, she loved her family. Mom never failed to show up with enough food for an army whenever they visited. You see, there weren’t any grocery stores where we lived. We love you, Mom!
She moved from Warren three years ago to be near her daughter, but Warren was always home and her dear neighbors were always in her thoughts. Special thanks to Don and Caryl Wary for doing anything she needed after our dad died. Thanks also to the wonderful staff at Creekstone Memory Care for she felt very special to them and called them “the kids.”
Friends and family will be received at Covenant United Methodist Church, 1624 Pennsylvania Avenue East, Warren, PA, at 10:30 a.m. on June 16 with a memorial service at 11:15 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Culp, Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Covenant or to Trans World Radio P.O. Box 8700, Cary NC 27512 with a note that it is for missionaries, Ryan and Elyse Seal, or to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport NY 14450. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA.
Dear Kim,
I doubt you remember me, but I went to Irvinedale Elementary (class of ’69) with you and remember your mother well. I loved your mother. As I recall, all the kids did. She was always smiling and usually had a wink for me as I moved through the lunch line. I looked forward to seeing her every school day. When we moved to Warren in 1965, we lived in a rented house at the end of Warren Blvd. I visited your house once to play and your mother made us lunch. I was doing some research and trying to find Irvinedale Elementary (now gone?), when I just now came across your mother’s obituary. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was a beautiful human being.
Sincerely,
Gretchen Sando
I was so sad to hear of your dear Mom’s death. We don’t get the paper nor did we hear when her celebration of life was. I came across photos to our families together & of course I have so many wonderful memories. I’d love to hear from you! I still love in Barnes.
