Richard Lee Warner Sr., 89, of Sugar Grove, PA, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in the Warren Manor, with his loving wife by his side, after an extended illness.
He was born in Warren, PA, on October 29, 1934, the son of the late Harley Collins and Maud Sly. Richard was adopted and raised by Max Warner and Margaret Gourley. He attended Sugar Grove School and enlisted with the United States Marine Corps., serving from 1957-1963. Richard worked for the National Forge as a crane operator and retired in 1996 after 30 years. He was a member of the AMVETS Post # 50 and the Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758. Richard was an avid woodworker, enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He was the former owner and operator of the Warner Service Station in Lander, PA.
On April 29, 1961, Richard married Phyllis R. Houghwot in the 1st Baptist Church in Frewsburg, NY, and they spent 63 loving years together.
In addition to his loving wife, Phyllis, Richard is survived by three loving children, Diane Warner of Warren, PA, Richard Warner II and wife Marie of Frewsburg, NY, and Georgia Eckert and husband Kevin of Sugar Grove, PA; six grandchildren, Michael and Mitchell Stenberg, Devon and Bryanna Warner, and Samantha and Edward Swartwood; and seven great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, six brothers, Edward, Elmer, Gaylord, Virgil, George Collins, and Kenneth Phillips; six sisters, Ester Banks, Harriett Warbobwski, Margaret Gurdak, Rosemary Collins, Virginia Sedlak, and Patricia Paloski.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc., 304 East Street Warren, PA. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Dale Haight, officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral service. Private burial will be in Wesleyan Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
