Raymond J. Nowacki, 87, of Warren, Pa. died Sunday morning, July 28, 2013 at Warren General Hospital. He was born January 23, 1926 in Dunkirk, N.Y. to the late Walter and Lucille Nowacki. Ray was a 1943 graduate of Dunkirk High School, Dunkirk, N.Y. He had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. After serving in the service he was employed with the former Loblaws grocery store in Dunkirk, N.Y. and several other locations as Store Manager for 23 years. He then moved to Warren, PA. where he was manager and became owner and operator of the former Warren Sewing Center retiring from there after several years. He was then employed as a part time bartender with the Warren Elks Lodge. He was a member of Holy Redeemer R.C. Church where he was an active member with numerous activities, including being a church usher, served on the building committee and the Catholic Stewardship Appeal committee. He was a member of the Warren Elks Lodge, Warren Council of Knights of Columbus, serving as a past Grand Knight, was longtime chairman of the K of C Turkey Party, former member of the bowling league, was a volunteer bartender, was a 4th degree member and sold numerous football tickets over the years. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and especially all kinds of fishing with his sons, grandchildren and family. He loved the outdoors, spending time in his yard tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He is survived by 10 children – Jim Nowacki (Lori), Tom Nowacki (Cindy), Barb Faust, all of Warren, PA., David Nowacki (Jennifer) of Lambertville, MI, Patty Swihart (Craig) of Virginia Beach, VA., Mark Nowacki (Cheryl) of Locust Grove, VA., Brian Nowacki (Kathy) of Powhattan, VA., Rick Nowacki (Sharon) of Warren, PA., Scott Nowacki (Missy) of Irvine, PA., Marcia Curtis (Chris) of Spotsylvania, VA., 1 Sister – Geraldine Dalton of Indianapolis, IN, 22 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nancy C. Link Nowacki whom he married June 15, 1949 at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Fredonia, New York, who died May 25, 2013, 2 infant daughters – Julie Lynn and Mary Nowacki, 1 Brother – Victor Nowacki, 4 Sisters – Monica Miller, Trudy Sasale, Pat Lutgen, Jean Stanley. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where members of the Warren Elks Lodge will conduct their funeral ritual at 6:00 P.M. and a joint vigil service will be conducted at 7:45 P.M. by members of the Warren Knights of Columbus Council and Deacon Joseph Lucia. Members of the Warren Knights of Columbus 4th degree will stand guard during visitation hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday, August 1 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, 11 Russell St., Warren, PA. by Fr. James Gutting, Pastor, assisted by Deacon Joseph Lucia. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. Funeral Detail and the U.S. Navy funeral personnel.
