Pietro “Pete” Bevacqua, 97, of Warren, PA, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on Friday evening, May 15, 2020, at Warren General Hospital after a day of being surrounded by loving family and friends. Born December 7, 1922, in Motta Santa Lucia, Italy, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Felicia Colacino Bevacqua.
After high school graduation, he attended trade school and served several years of apprenticeship that honed his skill in becoming a professional tailor descended from the fine tradition of Italian artisan masters. A resident of Warren for 53 years, he was employed at the former Levinson Brothers Department Store as a tailor and the former Blair Corporation in the Men’s Quality Control Dept, from which he retired. Previous to moving to Warren, he owned and operated a custom tailoring shop in Salem, OH. Pete was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Luisa Maiorana Bevacqua whom he married on March 11, 1954, and son, Carmen Bevacqua, Warren, PA, one brother, Mario Bevacqua, Italy, many treasured nieces and nephews in PA, Canada and Italy. Throughout his life, Pete’s constant and greatest dedication was to his beloved family that encompassed his siblings and their children. He was an avid vegetable gardener known for his extensive variety of heirloom tomatoes and Italian pole beans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Giulio and Eligio and 2 sisters: Caterina in infancy and Vittoria Aiello, and Brother-in-law: Victor C. Aiello.
Due to current pandemic restrictions, a Private Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue West, Warren, PA., with Fr. Richard C. Tomasone, officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Ascension at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Warren, PA 16365. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 1600 Peninsula Dr suite 15, Erie, PA 16505, or the St. Joseph Church Educational Center Fund, 600 Pennsylvania Ave. W., Warren PA 16365.
