Max M. Hoy, 96, of Warren, PA., died peacefully Sunday morning, November 8, 2020 at Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Warren, PA.
He was born May 27, 1924 in Youngsville, PA. Max was the son of William Waldo and Frances A. Smith Hoy. He was a lifelong Warren area resident and spent a few years in S. Lake Tahoe, CA.
Max had served with the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a Corporal during World War II. He was employed with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a mechanic for 25 years, retiring in April 1988. He was formerly employed with G.G. Greene. He had repaired ski lifts at Heavenly Valley Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe, CA., for a number of years and was a cabinet maker and operated the Rose Cliff Farm in Irvine, PA. He drove school bus and his father was the first person in Warren County to provide bussing to the Warren Co. School District. Max had a love for his John Deere tractors which he restored antique tractors and was known as the “Tractor Man.” He helped farmers keep their tractors operating. He enjoyed attending the Warren County Fair, especially the horse and tractors pulls and 4-H shows. Max valued hard work, a good cup of coffee, a good piece of pie or two, or cookies. He helped anyone in need and once you met him you had a friend for life.
Max is survived by his 2 daughters, DiAnn M. Savko of Warren, PA., Marsha J. Grimm of Boynton Beach, Florida, 1 sister – Mary Lou Lachusa of Sarasota, Florida, 3 Grandchildren – Jeff Savko and wife, Yolanda of Beaver Falls, PA., JoAnn Savko of Warren, PA., Tammy A. Sagonas and husband, Steve of Lake Worth, Florida, 7 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Power Hoy, 5 Brothers – William, Robert, Ben, Beryl, Jack Hoy, 4 Sisters – Marge Carlson, Audrey Bickle, Betty Dungen, twin sister, Maxine Chelberg.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. when a funeral and committal service will be conducted by Rev. Brian Haight, Pastor, and family friend, Rev. Walter Venman, retired minister, both officiating. CDC guidelines of social distancing and face masks are required.
