Mary Elaine Coates, 92, formerly of Warren, PA died Monday, February 9, 2015 at The Shaire Center in Hudson, NC.
Born on March 28, 1922 in Sheffield, PA she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anastasia Lesko Nagurney. Mary was a longtime resident of the Warren, PA area and was a former member of St Michael’s Byzantine Church in Sheffield, PA and St. Joseph R. C. Church in Warren. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Warren Women’s Club, Warren Art League and the Garden Club.
Mary is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Merlin (Sheryl Coates) Steiner of Hudson, NC, four sons, Jeffrey A. Coates and wife Paula of Tuckasegee, N.C., Gerald Mark Coates of White River Junction, VT, David L. Coates and wife Sally of Sugar Grove, PA, and Stephen J. Coates of Wethersfield, CT; one brother, Anthony Nagurney and wife Norma of Youngsville, PA; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald L. Coates, whom she married on August 7, 1943 in Hondo, TX and who died on December 3, 1995, one son, Douglas B. Coates; four brothers, John, Michael, Nickolas, Gregory; and one sister, Ann Rebert.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA, on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 9:00am to 10:00am at which time a memorial service will be held with Rev. David Bosnich, Pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Sheffield, PA, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Dear,sweet Mary, I knew her best when she was in her late seventies and early eighties. She was such a joy in my life, a very good friend, kind and so beautiful. Her smile lit up the world. Miss you, Mary
