Margaret A. “Marge” Porterfield, 87, formerly of Ludlow, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at The Rouse Home in Youngsville, PA. Born on December 8, 1931 in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest W. and Dorothy Olson Swanson.
Marge was a graduate of Kane High School. She later graduated from Antioch College and Penn State University. She had been formerly employed with the Warren County School District. Marge led a full life and had many adventures, living in Oregon, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Texas, Vermont, Utah, and Cambodia. Marge was always independent with a strong personality. Later in life, she became very active in church, which led to a mission to China, where she taught English for 2 years. She had a great heart for the oppressed and was unshakeable in following the causes she believed in. Marge is survived by her two children – Robert B. Porterfield of Ludlow, PA, and Heather L. Porterfield, of Ocala, FL; 1 granddaughter – Kristina Porterfield of Draper, UT; one sister – Kathy Berger, formerly of Sugar Grove, PA, and 7 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her former spouse, Charles L. Porterfield of Ocala, FL. In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by a brother – David W. Swanson.
Friends are invited to attend at Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ LDS Chapel, 15360 Route 6, Warren, PA. Your Mom was an amazing person. Her sense of humor and willingness to give me a chance at the “cash box” at the garage sale will always make me smile.
She was such a strong and independent person with such a huge heart.
