Kelly Sue Shaffer Kirkwood, of Tiona, PA., passed on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born April 12, 1959, in Warren, PA. She was the daughter of Hartwell and Judy Minor Shaffer. Kelly has resided the past 10 years in Tiona, PA., living in her childhood home. Kelly had a wonderful sense of humor and a biting wit. She loved to entertain family and friends. Her cousin, Reg Darling, penned these words, The world lost a wild, beautiful, and sometimes strangely wise spirit, yesterday. When Kelly was younger, spending an evening with her was like running away with the circus. Later in the gentle embrace of her marriage to Rick, her wildness remained keenly alive, but manifested itself in kindness and deep appreciation of life’s most basic pleasures. She will be missed, and she will always be with us.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Kirkwood, her mother, Judy Shaffer, her stepson, Christian Kirkwood, her brother, Jon Shaffer and his wife, Dawn, her sister, Jennifer Hackley and her husband, Jack, several nieces, and nephews who loved to sit and hear Aunt Kelly’s stories.
Kelly was preceded in death by her father, Hartwell Howard Shaffer, stepdaughter, Erin C. Ferry.
A Celebration of Kelly’s life will be held at Tiona United Methodist Church, 111 Six Mile Road, Tiona, PA., on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. Those wishing to place memorials in Kelly’s name, may do so through the Warren Cancer Center, 105 Lee Street, Warren, PA. 16365. E-mail condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
