John R. Mangini, 85, of Warren, PA. died Tuesday evening at 11:50 P.M. November 19, 2012 at his residence. He was born February 17, 1927 in Warren, PA. to the late Peter A. and Myrtle Langworthy Mangini. He was a lifelong resident of Warren. John had served with the U.S. Marine Corp from 1945 to 1946 and again from 1950 to 1951 as a corporal.
He was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church and a founding member of the Marine Corp. League. John was an avid bicyclist. John and his daughter Wendy rode across the country in 1990. John accumulated over 120 thousand miles on his bicycle. He was a former member of the Warren Bicycle Club. He later became interested in collecting antique “Hit” and “Miss” engines. He was a member of Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society, Cool Spring Power Museum and Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association. John’s highest priority was his family. He loved spending time with his family, which included parties, engine shows and traveling. He was loved by everyone for his humor and caring. A huge part of John’s life was his work. He loved working at the Warren State Hospital as the plumbing and heating foreman for 22 years retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce M. Reynolds Mangini whom he married August 1, 1953 at First United Methodist Church, 4 Children – Peter Mangini and wife, Regina, Wendy Mangini Carlson and husband, Thomas all of Warren, PA., Polly Miceli and husband, John of Fredonia, N.Y., Gloria Burns of Warren, PA., 8 Grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter – Penny M. Mangini on October 1, 1968, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where a vigil service will be conducted at 7:45 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Joseph R.C. Church at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corp and the Sheffield/Clarendon V.F.W. Funeral Detail. I have access to the Warren Times Observer where I saw the obituary. My sister, Diane, told me that she had spoken with Wendy who told her about Jack’s brief illness. I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
