Dear Darlene, Christine, Joe, Eric and Family,
I was so sad to read that John had passed when I logged onto the Times Observer online this morning. While I was never a student in one of his classes, I remember his great presence and the spirit of his happy personality, which all seemed to permeate the halls of WAHS, and the high praise that fellow classmates who had been in one of his classes had for Mr. Wallo. I realize there are no words that anyone can say, nor any that you could hear at this time, that will alleviate the sorrow you all feel at this loss. Praying, though, that the peace and love of God, along with your memories of John, shared with family and friends, will serve to bring your comfort during this time. I join my prayers to theirs and send you all my deepest condolences.
I knew Mr. Wallo all of my life, he was a great neighbor. I had the fortune, and he had the misfortune of having me for all three years of my high school math courses. Two memories really stand out. 1) I had just gotten out of the Navy and was going back to school, and he drove by and asked me what my plans were, my response was, “Well, Mr. Wallo, due to your influence, I’ve decided to go back to school and become a math teacher.” His response was, “OK, smart ass, what are you really doing?” (It had been over 10 years, and my math skills, or lack there of, must have really made an impression). 2) I was talking to him at the gas pump at Country Fair, and asked him what was the deal with statistics, I was currently taking a course and had it made no sense to me. He just shrugged his shoulders and said he never understood it either. Which I found to be comforting and terrifying at the same time, because the man who I always considered to be the math expert didn’t like the subject either. I’m sorry for your loss, he will be greatly missed.
I am a classmate and friend of Johns from East Deer Frazier High School. You have my condolences and sympathy. I heard about John’s death from Carl.
Mr. Wallo was my Geometry teacher. He made the class fun and interesting, and.I worked hard to earn my A in his class. One day in class, all of us with braces, starting shooting the tiny rubber bands from our braces at him, when he was writing on the board. He couldn’t feel them, but turned around to find the floor covered with tiny rubber bands. He looked a little confused but never said a word. He made a difference as a teacher.
Darlene, I am sad that I live so far away that I won’t be able to attend Johns Memorial. I’m sorry for your loss, wish I could be of more support. Darlene and family,
John was a wonderful man. I worked with him at WAHS and as a WACOPSE board member. He had a dry wit, which I thoroughly enjoyed. He spoke fondly of his family and could carry on a conversation for hours about hunting. I am truly sorry for your loss. Barb Yucha
From 1983 to 1993, I worked in the Warren store (PLCB) .. that’s where I met John . I only recently learned of his passing. I had a great relationship with John , found him to be pleasant and witty . He helped a stranger in town to find a decent place to live and recommended a good barber .“. thank you Darlene “.
Time moved on and so did I.. but I never forgot About the “gang”.. and
John , he was simply a good man..!!
We will miss Mr. Wallo. I had him in high school for my very first computer class. He also mentored both of my children in the Learning Enrichment Program. He was a great guy and will be missed by many.
My condolences to your family.
Mr. Wallo was an Amazing man and assisted this math deficient student many times
I was a student of Mr. Wallo. Largely because of him I went to college earning degrees in biochemistry and computer science including a PhD in computer science. Thank you Mr. Wallo, you truly did help so many of your students.
