Jock Thomas McCain, 65, passed on the 4th of July, just like Jefferson, Adams, and Monroe. A true American hero.
He spent half his life in the service of his country. He did four tours in Iraq, one in Kuwait, one in Grenada, and several unnamed operations that have been redacted from his public record. Jock held titles such as Army Ranger, Drill Sergeant, and Airborne Jumpmaster. He retired an E9, Command Sergeant Major, with 30 military honors to include:
• Legion of merit
• Meritorious Service Medal (4th award)
• Army commendation Medal (3rd award)
• Joint meritorious unit award
• Army good conduct medal (7th award)
• National defense service medal
• Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 Bronze service star (BSS)
• Humanitarian service medal
After “retirement” Jock signed up once again, as an independent contractor heading a top secret security division for the US government in Bosnia and Kosovo where he and his unit were directly responsible for the apprehension of several terrorists from the FBI’s most wanted list. He then spent several years training private security teams for abduction and anti-kidnapping certification.
Jock’s impact went beyond his service, he was a wisdom-filled badass, an amazing father, proud grandfather and his wife’s best friend.
Jock was born October 17, 1956 in Birmingham, AL to Dunreath and Thomas McCain. He grew up on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida and has resided in Warren, Pennsylvania for the past seven years where he died at home from advanced melanoma.
Jock is survived by his Wife, Wendy McCain, Daughter Andrea McCain (David), Granddaughter Jayda McCain Rojas, brothers Rob McCain (Susie) and Cary McCain (Donna). A burial services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.

1SG John Wayne McCain was one of my idols. He was a Paratrooper with no rivals. Personal best line from CSM McCain, in a company formation, the Battalion CSM wanted all of the 1SG’s to sell Xmas cards for some charity. 1SG McCain told all of his 136 crazy Paratroopers that the spirit of Xmas is Killing so we all should buy some. We did! I have many more! Good bless his family and his Paratrooper brothers.
Condolences to the family and friends of Jock McCain.

I am sorry for your loss. I remember CSM McCain when I was stationed in Hawaii back 82 thru 85 B co 1st 14th Inf. He was SFC McCain then. He truly was a Bad Ass, One Great Soldier who leaded by example. He did not say much, But when McCain did speak, you listened. Hoorah!!
May God surround you with his loving arms during this time and may you be filled with His love and peace.

SFC (later CSM) McCain was the epitome of the professional NCO. He was a sterling example of how a true professional would carry himself and was admired by his subordinates, peers, and the officers of B 1/14th Infantry.
My sincerest condolences to the family. It was a true honor to know and serve with him.
CSM McCain was the finest platoon sargeant I ever came in contact with. He treated everyone the same and required the best from all of us. Truly a sad day when an American hero says goodbye. B Co. 1/14 Golden Dragons. Condolences to his family, he will be missed.
Growing up Jock and I were more than friends we were like brothers. I would spend time at his house and he at mine. We went through elementary school and high school. We played baseball and partied together when we got older. We were supposed to go in the Army together, but I didn’t go in until 2 years later. However we did hook up in Hawaii when we were both stationed there. We got together back home in Florida a couple of times when we were both on leave. Jock now has a another set of wings and no doubt he is going to be training angels how to fly. I as well as many others will truly miss Jock. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I was so glad that he found Wendy since the two made a great couple. They were able to enjoy the life that Jock had always loved. Jock will be truly missed by all. I loved Jock and I know that someday we will be all be together again. Love to all his family and friends. Jock I will always be thinking of you until we meet again God’s speed my brother in Arms. Rob
