Jean Annette Dyke Krieg, 93, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 9, 2022, at St. Vincent Healthcare – AHN, Erie, PA. She was born on her mother’s 22nd birthday, September 4, 1929, in Warren, PA, to George Henry and Mary Lee Elizabeth (Seekings) Dyke. She was an extremely loving, supportive and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend.

Jean attended Warren Area High School, then worked various jobs and was a waitress at the former East Side Sandwich Shop for 12 years. In the late ‘60s, she was voted Warren County Miss Hospitality and went to Harrisburg, PA to compete, at the state level.

Jean loved helping others. She was known for her “candy drawer.” She always gave candy bars, homemade cookies and fudge to all the kids getting off the school bus at her house.

Jean attended church faithfully, beginning in her childhood. Since 1966, Jean had been a member of the First Church of God, of Warren, PA, where she was a very active volunteer in many facets of the church. She served on the church Finance Committee, was a long-time Board of Trustees member, and part of the Women’s Missionary Society, now known as C.W.C. Each summer she volunteered at Vacation Bible School for more than 40 years and was a past member of the church choir. She was co-chair of the Funeral Committee and chairman of the Flower Committee. As part of the ministry of Hope, she sent cards to the homebound ill and elderly church members each month right up until she became sick.

Jean and her late husband, Bill, headed up fund-raising dinners, including their homemade sauerkraut and pork annual event. They also hosted the yearly church corn roast at their home for 40 years. She loved being part of the yearly “Trunk or Treat”. She was a member of the church American Cancer Society Relay for Life team and each year made several berry pies for the event.

Jean loved hosting reunions every year for her family and friends. She enjoyed family get-togethers and holiday dinners, where she made all of the pies. Jean enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities — soccer games, dance recitals, baseball games, swim meets and cross-country track meets. She loved her “long” shopping trips to Erie with friends, and also gardening, playing games, cooking, baking, and especially trying new recipes. And she loved her Boston bulldogs. She delighted in telling people that she still drove her car. She also told people, “If Cindy and Andy’s car goes, I’m in it!”

Jean is survived by her 3 children – Gary Mickle and wife, Becky of Johnstown, PA, Cindy Brooks and husband, Andy of Clarendon, PA, Linda Krieg of Key West, FL, grandchildren – Jodi Holland and husband, Rev. Toby of Johnstown, PA, Scott Mickle and wife Shannon of Johnstown, PA, Heidi Peters and husband, Spencer of Spring Mills, PA, Jessica Heeter and husband, Kevin of Warren, PA, great-grandchildren – Jack and Natalie Holland of Johnstown, PA, Chloe Mickle of San Diego, CA, Marinn and Hadley Peters of Spring Mills, PA, Gavin and Nakomis Heeter of Warren, PA, several nieces, nephews, special neighbors who are like family, church family and shopping trip girls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Carter who passed in 1970, and the love of her life, husband of 39 years, William J. “Bill” Krieg, who died March 2, 2011, and whom she married on January 2, 1972, 2 brothers – William Dyke and his wife, Eleanor, and Richard Dyke and his wife, Dorotha.

“To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heaven….” – Eccl. 3:1.

Jean was blessed with a long, fruitful and rewarding life. And she served her Lord’s purpose very, very well.
