Ivan F. Smith, Jr., 76, of Russell, PA., died Thursday evening, December 5, 2024, peacefully with his wife at his bedside, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA.
He was born September 4, 1948, in Warren, PA., he was the son of Ivan F. and Maxine Beckwith Smith, Sr. He was a lifelong Warren-Russell area resident. He had served with the U.S. Marine Corp. as a private first class, during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed as a Psychiatric Aide at Warren State Hospital, retiring from there after 20 years employment. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His greatest love in his life, was his family, especially his wife, son and grandchildren, who were everything to him.
Ivan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Michelle “Missy” L. Higgins Smith whom he married July 17, 1989, in Warren, PA., 1 Son – Ivan F. Smith, III of Russell, PA., 1 Daughter – Tia Corbley and significant other, Karl Harding of Jamestown, N.Y., 1 Brother – Duane Smith of Busti, N.Y., 1 Sister – Erika Jones and husband, Lorian of Crittenden, KY, 2 Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Brother – Dale Walter Smith.

Missy, Tia, and Ivan- words cannot convey how Bill, the kids and I feel about the loss of Ivan. Know you are loved.
My condolences to all of you. I have fond memories of Ivan when we were in high school. We went to our Junior prom and on the way he drove off the road and we hit a tree! We weren’t hurt and eventually made it to the prom. Sending prayers.
