Helen Huck Mead, 93, a resident of the Rouse Suites, Youngsville,
PA., died Thursday, November 19, 2015. She was born January
10, 1922 in Warren, PA. She was the daughter of Emmet P. and
Margaret Dalrymple Huck. She lived in North Warren from birth
until moving to Youngsville, PA., in 2011.
Helen attended Warren area schools, graduating from Warren
High School, Class of 1939. After graduation from Hoff Business
School, she went to work at New Process Company and then the
Pennsylvania Gas Company where she met Keith E. Chase,
whom she married in 1941 at Wehauken, N.J.
She persevered through difficult times when Keith was captured
in the Battle of the Bulge and was held as a prisoner of war. On
his return they settled in North Warren to raise their family.
She was a lifelong member of North Warren Presbyterian Church,
serving in various capacities including teaching Sunday School.
She was very active in the Warren County Historical Society and
was employed there as Secretary for many years. Helen was an
avid genealogist and member of the New England Historic
Genealogical Society. She devoted considerable effort to research
leading to extending many branches of the family tree back to
colonial times and beyond. Her interests also included
archeology, geology and jewelry making, and she was a member
of the Gem City Rock and Mineral Society of Erie. She enjoyed
travelling, and even in later years enjoyed following the New
York Yankees.
Helen is survived by two sons, David L. Chase and wife, Dee of
Warren, PA., A. Timothy Chase and wife, Judy of Pocono Pines,
PA., three Granddaughters, Nikki Chase and husband, Clint
Uplinger of Youngsville, PA., Michelle Pike and husband, Jim of
Gloucester, VA., Patty Bell and husband, Aaron of Reading, PA.,
three Great-Grandchildren , Becca Pike, Grace and Chase Sturz,
one brother – Robert E. Huck of Mt. Joy, PA., close companion,
Gail Hunter of the Rouse Suites, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
husbands, Keith E. Chase and U. Sherwood Mead, two brothers,
Donald H. and Norman P. Huck.
The family will receive friends at the North Warren Presbyterian
Church, 200 S. State Street, N. Warren, PA., on Sunday,
November 22, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. followed by a memorial
service at 3:00 P.M. by Rev. Burfoot Ward, Pastor. Interment will
be in Pine Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
