My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Gus was one of the nicest people I‘ve had the pleasure to know. He was the barber for my Dad and brothers and then my husband and son. And I can still see him working along side my Dad in the kitchen of the church basement. It was my honor to know him. My sympathies to his family.
Gusty was a man of patience and faith. He was a great barber, and when my son Danny was old enough to have his hair cut, Gusty was so patient and kind, because Danny didn’t like the clippers nor the noise Gusty reassured Danny that it wasn’t going to hurt. My family was blessed with his friendship. Rest in Peace Gusty. You will be remembered always.
There is only one word when I think of Gusty: Gentleman.
In my years of business in Warren, Gusty was always, and in every way, a true
Gentleman – Capital G intended.
Gusty was a great guy (especially because he was from Clarendon). I fondly remember him from coming to the YMCA and enjoying the water fitness classes with his buddy Bernie Wingert. My father took my son to Gusty for his first haircut. Gusty will be missed. My condolences to his family.
John and family, my condolences. He made the 100 milestone!!! He was amazing man. That’s a strong bloodline to follow. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of grieving.
I was around 11 years old and my family was visiting my grandparents in Warren. My dad and I went to Gusty’s barbershop. It was summer and two people riding horses went by the shop. Gusty said “Well at least we’re not a one horse town”. Everyone had a good laugh. During the few times I saw him later in life at family reunions, he always made a point to talk to me and ask how I was doing. He was a man of great integrity and kindness. My deepest sympathy to his family.
To John, Carol and family, our deepest condolences on your loss. He was an enduring presence in the life of yourselves and many others. Our thoughts are with you at this time.
I went to Gusty for haircuts starting about 1956. He was always upbeat and friendly to everyone. I heard stories that he was a heck of a quarterback. Just a great guy who will be missed.
A true gentleman if there ever was one. My first and favorite barber. My father, Dick Carlson, had the honor of playing quarterback on the WAHS football team with Gusty until Gusty went into the service.
