Evelyn G. Baker, 91, of Warren, PA., died Friday morning, January 8, 2016 at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Home after a brief illness. She was born March 9, 1924 in Damascus, PA. She was the daughter of Forest and Lillian White Canfield. Evelyn was a Warren area resident since 1992 and formerly of Ridgway and Meadville, PA. She was a 1942 graduate of Damascus High School and a 1946 graduate of Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was employed with Binghamton City Hospital and the former Meadville City Hospital. Evelyn was a former member of Warren Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 135 Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed her family and traveling. Evelyn was an avid reader and like going to the casino and working her crossword puzzles.
She is survived by 2 daughters – Barbara Sopkin and husband, Chuck of Russell, PA., Brenda Harkins and husband, William of Clymer, PA.,4 Grandchildren – David Sopkin and Ashley Nickels, William and Oressa Harkins, 1 Great Grandson – Jase Nickels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Baker whom she married May 10, 1946 in Meadville, PA., who died on May 15 1991, 6 Sisters and 2 Brothers.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA., on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 6 to 8 P.M. A funeral and committal service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Allan Jones, Pastor of Cable Hollow Church, Russell, PA, officiating. Sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Sorry I missed the funeral. I just heard about it now. Evelyn was a good kind hearted woman. She’ll be missed by many.
