Eleanor “Billie” Wilbrock Pees Johnson, 87, of Sonora Ca. formerly of Warren, Pa., died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in her residence following a brief illness. Born March 25, 1924 in Warren to the late Jay and Carrie Valentine Pees, she was a 1941 graduate of Warren High School. In her youth, she was a member of the Girl Scouts, Camp Birdsall Edey. In Warren, she was employed by the former New Process Co in the mailing department. Billie had been offered a position at Harrah’s Club in Reno, Nv. but turned down the offer due to her young age. Settling in California, she was the founder of the Sonora Red Hat Society. She was Episcopalian by faith, and enjoyed decorating, crafts and camping.
She is survived by her daughters – Karen Ahlgren of Russell, Pa. and Kathleen Grettum and her husband, Thomas of Fallon, Nv.; one nephew – Clarence “Jay” Butch Pees of Warren; two nieces – Barb Babcock and her husband, Brian of Warren and Becky Hughes and her husband Bill of Vero Beach, Fl.; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband – Lorin R. Johnson, whom she married April 4, 1958; a stillborn son; and a brother – Stephen “Bud” Pees.
A private service for friends and family will be at their convenience. Billie’s cremated remains will be scattered on the Nevada side of the Sierra Mountains. The Donald E.
