Donald R. Cable, 87, of Akeley, PA. died Sunday afternoon, August 25, 2019 at Warren Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born May 30, 1932 in Akeley, PA. Don was the son of the late John H. and Cecil Slye Cable. He had resided in Akeley, PA., his entire life. Don was a 1950 graduate of Warren High School and served with the U.S. Navy as an air craft mechanic during the Korean War. He was employed as a machinist with Marlin Rockwell Company for 39 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Cable Hollow Community Church, Russell Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 32nd degree masonic member of the Carroll Masonic Lodge. Don was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed volunteering with R.S.V.P. Toy Shoppe.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian Van Cise Cable whom he married July 7, 1956 in Akeley, PA., 5 Children – Diana Cable of Watkins, CO., Dudley Cable and wife, Sandy of Berkley Spring, W.V., Bruce Cable and wife, Lynn of Lebanon, TN, Karen Bruce and husband, Richard of Celeron, N.Y., Meretta Cable of Warren, PA., 5 Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Daughter – Amanda Ludwsczski his siblings, Pauline Gern, Alvin Cable, Beatrice Smith, Paul Cable and Brenda Cable, Clifford Cable, Roberta Anderson
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc 304 East Street, Warren, PA., on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Cable Hollow Community Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Allan Jones, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hale Cemetery, Akeley, PA where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. and the U.S. Navy Personnel.
