Bernard Francis “Papa” Fasenmyer, 90, of Warren, PA, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice Residence in Warren, passing due to age and dementia.
He was born in Oil City, PA, on July 22, 1930, the son of the late James and Martina Marie Shield Fasenmyer. He attended Cranberry High School and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, serving in the Korean Conflict in 1952. On September 28, 1957, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Wurster, in Oil City. They were married for 59 years when she passed away in 2017. He missed her dearly and they are now reunited. In 1955 they moved to Warren and he went to work for Warren Concrete Products, where he drove truck for them taking their products to various yards and suppliers in PA and West Virginia. We were amazed at all the highways, roads, and short-cuts he knew. He always helped plan our trips and receive our calls when we needed help. He would get out his map and point us in the right direction. He worked there for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed family vacations to the Outer Banks and was able to go with Pam and Tim and kids in 2019 to the beach one last time. He had fun and got to drive his electric sand wheelchair on the beach. Papa enjoyed going to his grandkids sporting events, concerts, and recitals. You could always hear him at games cheering from the stands. Family was everything to him. He enjoyed the annual Fasenmyer reunions and was affectionately know to his many nieces and nephews as “Uncle Bonnie.”
Pam and Deb, with care and compassion, kept him in his home for all but 18 days. He entered the Hospice House and was taken good care of by their incredible staff. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; his sisters – Rita Caldwell and Doris Fry; and brothers – Henry and Leroy Fasenmyer.
He is survived by sisters – Jean Black and Judy (Fred) Buckholtz of Seneca, PA; daughters – Deb Wiltsie and husband, Tim, Pam Meley and husband, Tim, all of Warren, PA; grandsons – Greg Wiltsie of Warren, Dan Wiltsie and partner Dianna Francisco of Raleigh, NC; Kyle Meley and wife, Jessica, of Brockway, PA; granddaughter – Melissa Swatsworth, affectionately called “Missy” and her husband, Doug, of Russell, PA, and their dog Darwin, who visited every day and was lovingly called “little guy;” great grandson – Weston Meley and great-granddaughter – Martina Swatsworth; and several nieces and nephews. Papa was a very kind man and a devoted, caring son, husband, and father. His family was everything to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A private family service will be held at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St., Warren, PA, with Fr. Richard C. Tomasone, Pastor, of St. Joseph R.C. Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Ave., Warren, PA, 16365, or at www.hospiceofwarrencounty.org. E-mail condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com.
