Allen D. Stewart, 71, of Warren, PA, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, August 4, 2016, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.
Born on October 19, 1944 in Warren, PA, Allen was the son of the late Jack W. and Helen B. Sires Stewart. He resided in Warren most of his life and was a 1964 graduate of Eisenhower High School, where he was one of their football greats and known as “the boy with the golden toe.” Following high school, Allen served with the U.S. Army from 1965 – 1967 where he was a member of the Rangers and was a paratrooper. Following his military service Allen returned to Warren and was employed with Warren Railcar in Starbrick, PA, which sparked his interest in drafting. He then moved to Florida for 5 years where he worked with his brother, Sheldon in steel fabrication. He moved back to Warren and was employed with Warren Steel as plant manager and later as plant manager for Witherups Fabrication in Oil City. He was currently employed with Ellwood National Steel in Irvine Pa. Allen was a member of the American Legion, Warren Moose Lodge 109, and Warren Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed watching his grandson, Geoffrey, play football for the Warren Dragons and his grandson, Jakobe, play baseball. Allen also enjoyed the company of his little buddies next door, Degan and Logan Peterson and his 3 Yorkies, Gracie, George, and Levi.
Allen is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carole Gagliardi Stewart, whom he married on September 1, 1995. He is also survived by 2 sons Jason (Kimberly) Stewart, of Warren, PA, and Shawn (Brenda) Stewart, of Lovettsville, VA, 4 grandchildren – Jennifer Stewart, Geoffrey Stewart, Ryan Stewart and Jack Allen Stewart, 3 step-children – Todd (Michele) Chiaravalloti, Renee (Joshua) Anthony, all of Warren, PA, and Beth Chiaravalloti of Erie, PA, 3 step-grandchildren – Jakobe and Aydin Anthony and Wyatt Chiaravalloti, 2 sisters – Susan (Dean) Foote of Gainesville, GA, and Lorraine, (Thomas) Walker of Russell, PA, 1 brother – Arlin Stewart and his partner, Doug Sanear of Jamestown, NY, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by 8 brothers – Sheldon, Dean, Ronald, Jerry, Stephen, Roger, James, and Craig Stewart, and 1 sister – Virginia Exley.
Friends may call from 5-8PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, with Rev. Jon Swart, Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Warren, PA, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA, where military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. Honor Guard and members of the U.S. Army.
