Marjorie Rebecca Mintzer (Armstrong), a long-established resident of North Warren, PA, passed away peacefully on the early morning of August 18, 2018, at the age of 94. She was born Delores Jean Dolan, in Rochester, NY, on June 21, 1924. She was given her legal name by her adopted parents, Reverend Benjamin Forrest and Daisy Mae Armstrong. When her adopted mother passed away, she was then raised by her step-mother, Nora, who also worked in the ministry. She married James Leon Mintzer, a WWII veteran, on August 2, 1945. They had four children: John, Thomas (of North Warren), Pamela, and Charles. One of her biggest accomplishments was achieving her license to practice nursing and working at the Warren State Hospital for over 37 years, retiring in 1990. She had a passion for helping others and did so in retirement by helping family, neighbors, and friends. Besides serving and helping others, to include through nursing, she had a love for music and animals. She was preceded in death by her adopted parents; her loving husband, James, of 20 years; her daughter, Pamela Jean Mintzer, of North Warren, in 2014; and a granddaughter, Rhonda Jean Taylor. She is survived by all her sons and grandchildren including Kimberly [great-granddaughters Molly and Miranda], Diana [great-grandchildren Katlyn and Jacob], Rebecca (Brandon) [great-granddaughter Keely Joy], and Adam and Emily, among many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren and wonderful friend, Beverly Pittock. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to an Alzheimer’s charity or animal charity of choice. The family would like to extend much appreciation in thanking all the staff that so lovingly cared for her at Kinzua Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (formally known as Golden Living). Visitation will be held at Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA, on Friday, August 24, 2018, from 5pm-7pm. Additional visitation will be held at the Interfaith Chapel on the Warren State Hospital grounds beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2018, with a service following at 11:00A.M. So very sorry for your loss. She is at peace now and with her loved ones.
Very sorry for your loss. I attended Russell Elementary School in the late ‘50s and remember walking to the Methodist Church for “flannel board lessons and Bible drills”. She reached many children through her mission.
