Claude L. Kirkwood, 94, a resident of Cambridge Warren, who
died there on Friday morning, June 1, 2018.
He was born January 24, 1924 in Halton, PA. He was the son of
John and Mary Covel Kirkwood. Claude was a former resident of
Reynoldsville, Dubois and Ridgway, PA. He was a veteran
serving with U.S. Navy as a Boilermaker 3rd Class during World
War II and the Korean War. In World War II he served on the U.S.
Skagit A.K.A. 105, was in Tokyo harbor the day the peace treaty
was signed, serving both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. In the
Korean War, he served on a repair ship AR, 12, U.S.S. Briareus in
the Atlantic Theatre.
He was employed as a welder with PennDOT for 19 ½ years,
where he retired on January 31, 1987 and formerly with
Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company. He was an avid hunter
and fisherman.
He is survived by his 6 Children – Richard “Rick” Kirkwood,
wife, Kelly of Tiona, PA., Cheryl A. Costion, husband, Gary of
Warren, PA., Terry Kirkwood of Youngsville, PA., Patrice E.
VanCise, husband, Steve of Russell, PA., Carol C. McClellan,
husband, Steven of Warren, PA., Donald C. Kirkwood,
Youngsville, PA., 1 Sister – Dorothy Schnepp of Sigel, PA., 13
Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great
Grandchild, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rhines Kirkwood, 3
Sisters – Mary Yeagle, Sarah Heffern, Betty Mays, 3 Brothers –
William, Paul and Donald Kirkwood, Grandson – Brian Costion,
and an infant grandson.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304
East Street, Warren, PA., on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 4 to 6 P.M.
where a funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 4, 2018 at
1:00 P.M. with Rev. Frank Lanza, Pastor of First Assembly of God
Church, officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by
members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. Honor Guard and
U.S. Navy. Interment will be in Donahey Cemetery, Sigel, PA.
