David L. Jones, 68, of Kane, PA., died Monday morning, October 9, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Dave, formally of Warren, PA., was born on August 21, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of the late James A. Jones and Thelda L. (Osterman) Jones. An Army veteran, Dave served two tours of duty in Plieku, Vietnam. He was a long time seasonal maintenance worker for the Army Corp of Engineers at the Kinzua Dam, after which, Dave went to work at Betts Industries for eight years. He was an avid collector of model trains, old movies, and old music. Dave’s Edison phonographs and tube style records were recently acquired by the Library of Congress. He leaves behind a son, Zachary, 32, of Sheridan, WY. There will be a small memorial service to be held later. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. E-mail condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com
A fellow record collector and film archivist, I knew Dave from the early 1970s up to the present. Over the years I exchanged much recorded musical material with him, benefiting greatly from his research and extraordinary knowledge of old music and films. Even as his health declined in recent years, he never lost his interest in these fields and continue acquiring material (particularly model trains) up to the very end. I will greatly miss our extended phone calls and being able to draw upon his wealth of knowledge. Many other collectors have benefited from Dave’s contributions to ongoing discographical research as well. Having for so many years been a member of the record collecting community, much of his hard work and research has fortunately been passed on and will survive in the minds and archives of the many collectors he knew and shared his knowledge with. He will be greatly missed!
