Francis F. “Sparky” Himmler, 93, of N. Warren, PA., died Monday, August 8, 2016 in Wylie, TX while visiting with his daughter. He was born November 3, 1922 in Trafford, Westmoreland Co., PA., and had resided in Warren since 1969.
He had formerly resided in Tuscan, AZ.
Francis was enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a B17 Gunner, where he earned a American Theater Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and an Air Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.
Sparky was a camp ranger for many years for the Boy Scouts of America in Washington and Westmoreland Counties. He had also been employed with GTE Sylvania of Warren for 13 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed building hammocks and always had a quick wit and solid sense of humor.
He is survived by his two children – Elizabeth “Beth” Weathermon of Wylie, TX., Mark C. Himmler of Waterford, PA., Granddaughter – Emily Anne Himmler of Waterford, PA.,
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Miller Himmler whom he married September 10, 1949 in Amity, PA., two brothers including his twin, Charles Albert Himmler who was shot down during World War II, and Edward Broderick Himmler, 1 Granddaughter, Leanne Himmler.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA., on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. followed by a graveside funeral and committal service will be conducted at Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, PA., at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Marcus Briggs, Chaplain of the Warren General Hospital, officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Sheffield/Clarendon V.F.W.
