John R. Baker, 97, of North Warren, PA., died peacefully Saturday

morning, January 16, 2016 in his chair after a brief illness. He was

born October 10, 1918 in Warren, PA. He was the son of Bert and

Maude Hale Baker. John was a veteran with the U.S. Army

during World War II, where he served as a Private First Class,

with Company E, 120th Infantry Regiment. He earned a Bronze

Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal after being wounded in Belgium

on January 16, 1945, Good Conduct Medal, European African

Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the

World War II Victory Medal. He was employed for 42 years with

the former Struthers Wells Corporation as a welder/fitter, retiring

in 1982. After retirement, he worked painting houses and

delivering the Erie Times News Sunday edition. He enjoyed

doing odd jobs around his home and is remembered as a

hardworking, loving husband, father, grandfather and great

grandfather. He was a strong family man. John was a longtime

member of St. Joseph R.C. Church, past member of the Warren

Elks Lodge, member of Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Debbie Martin and husband,

Fred, Susan Baker all of Warren, PA., Longtime friend and

companion, Barbara Imperial of Warren, PA., 2 Grandchildren –

Christopher J. Martin, Elizabeth Caldwell and husband, Joshua, 2

Great Grandchildren – Noah and Reagan Caldwell, His Brother-

in-laws David & Mary Lopez, James & Carol Lopez, all of

Warren, PA., several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of

53 years, Jean L. Lopez whom he married June 1, 1944 in Warren,

PA., who died January 30, 1998, 2 Brothers – Harry and William

Baker, 2 Sisters – Hazel Christie and Laura Regina.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304

East Street, Warren, PA., on Tuesday, January 20, 2016 from 6 to 8

P.M. where a vigil service will be conducted at 7:45 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Wednesday,

January 21, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600

Pennsylvania Avenue West, Warren, PA., by Fr. Richard J.

Toohey, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C.

Cemetery, where full military honors will be bestowed by

members of the U.S. Army and Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W.
