Richard B. “Dick” Rossman, 83, of Warren, PA., passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 6, 2023, at St. Vincent Healthcare Center, Erie, PA.
Richard was born on December 18, 1939, in Warren. He was the son of Harrison G. and Marie Schatzle Rossman. A lifelong Warren area resident, Dick graduated from Warren High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy, as a Radioman 3rd Class with an expert rating in morse code. While in the Navy, he was stationed in Japan, Hawaii, and Long Beach, CA.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a caring and friendly letter carrier in Warren, retiring in 1999 after 30 years employment. He was proud of his hard work and served as a mentor/trainer to new letter carriers. Shortly after retirement, he became a school bus driver, who safely transported students, as well as sports teams until the age of 80. While his children were growing up, he was a beloved Little League Baseball coach, for 15 years, teaching life lessons to his players, as well as instilling his love and knowledge of the game. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren’s many sports as well as following the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
He was a skilled golfer and bowler, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Richard was a highly respected man who wore many hats and made those around him smile. His greatest joys in life were being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather; family was who he was.
He is survived by his children – Julie K. Rossman Freeborough and significant other, Paul “Reggie” Rogers, Amber Baldensperger and husband, Daryl, all of Warren, PA., Stephen Rossman and wife, Louann of Reynoldsburg, OH., Tim Rossman and wife, Amy of Scandia, PA., 8 Grandchildren – Lindsay N. Freeborough, Molly R. Loomis (Trey), Katie J. Freeborough, Seth M. Baldenperger (Emma), Lance Harrison Baldensperger, Jayna R. Baldensperger, Neil Richard Rossman, Mitchell C. Rossman, 2 Great Grandchildren – Brooks M. Baldensperger, Colleen C. Loomis, several nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Harrison “Buck” Rossman, 2 sisters – Peggy Haslet and Beverly Purdy. Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA., on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., when a funeral service will be conducted there at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Dale Haight, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, PA. where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. and Warren American Legion Funeral Detail and the U.S. Navy personnel.
