William M. Hill, Jr., 91, died peacefully on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Bill was born in Warren, PA. in 1929 and graduated from Warren High School in 1947, from Dickinson College in 1951 and from Dickinson School of Law in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Devens, MA, for two years before returning to Warren to practice law for 55 years, first as an associate of R. Pierson Eaton and finally as a partner with Dru Schoenborn. Bill retired in 2012. Bill was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout. He was active in many and various capacities in Warren and surrounding communities. For many years of service, he was presented with the Warren County Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award in 2005. Among his diverse interests were Warren Players, ornithology, and Sherlock Holmes. He donated his extensive Conan Doyle collection to Warren Public Library, where it is available to the public. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Hill, Sr. and Charlotte Davidson Hill, both Warren residents.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Howard Hill, whom he married in 1955; his four children, Nancy Hill (husband Mark Schaefer), Bill III, Amy Morrison (husband Ted), and Barbara Hill (husband Mike Hawley); his grandchildren, Megan Grinnen and Henry Morrison (wife Katlyn); his great granddaughter, Avery Grinnen; his sister, Jane McDevitt (husband James); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 26, 2021, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mark E. Hecht, and Rev. Michael Rutenber, officiating. In honor of Bill’s many years of service and love for the community of Warren, the decision has been made, in recognition of COVID, to hold a celebration of Bill’s life at a later date. Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to Warren Public Library, Struthers Library Theatre, Warren County Historical Society, First United Methodist Church, Warren YMCA or Audubon Community Nature Center in Jamestown, N.Y.
