Anthony Joseph “Joe” Pellegrino, 90, of Sheffield, PA., died Saturday evening, June 3, 2023, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, PA., after a brief illness. He was born July 15, 1932, in Sheffield, PA. Joe was the son of Joseph and Isabelle Canito Pellegrino. He was a lifelong Sheffield resident. He was a 1952 graduate of Sheffield High School, where he was a talented football and basketball player. He had served with the U.S. Army as a Private First Class, serving as a quartermaster. He obtained the rifle marksman badge, all during the Korean War. He was very proud to have served his country.
He was employed for 40 years, with the former National Forge Company, as a machinist, retiring December 31, 1994. Joe was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and was a former member of the Saint Joseph Cemetery Board of Directors. Joe was an avid hunter and fly fisherman. He loved attending any sport his son played, while in school, and was a member of the Sheffield Sports Boosters. He was one of five of the original members to start the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club and was a life member of the Sheffield Veterans of Foreign Wars Club.
Joe’s greatest joys in life, were his wife, children, grandchildren and his entire family. They were his life.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria F. Pellegrino, whom he married November 21, 1959, at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church, Warren, PA., 2 Children – Mary McLean and husband, Bruce of Grand Island, N.Y., Dan Pellegrino and wife, Diana of Warren, PA., 1 Sister – Catherine Kraft of Westfield, N.Y., 2 Nieces – Andrea Kraft of Westfield, N.Y., Marianne Pohl of Monroeville, PA., 1 Nephew – Thomas Scarcella of Warren, PA., 3 Grandchildren – Elizabeth McLean, Alisa Wagner (John), Nicholas Pellegrino, 1 Great Granddaughter, Isabelle Wagner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Frank Scarcella, and sister, Mary Straneva.
There will be no visitation hours observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Saybrook, PA., with Fr. Stephen Schreiber, Pastor, and Fr. Richard Tomasone, Pastor of St. Joseph. R.C. Church, co-officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, Warren, PA.
