Dear Betty,
I have the deepest respect for you as a Nurse, human being and warrior. Your battle with cancer was admirable. What I respected the most, was there was no question of who was in charge during your illness; it was you, not the Cancer!
We spent some hard long days and nights together in the ER. As a young physician, I learned a lot from you and felt comfortable that you “had my back.” I could count on you to tell me what you thought – whether it was something I wanted to hear, or perhaps not! I remember the hearty laughs when we had success in turning around someone in dire straits; and the tears when we were denied the victory. I will miss you old friend. But I am confident that our souls will meet again, perhaps in the ER, where they will tell a young Nurse and a new physician, “Maybe you ought to be thinking this way. . . That’s it. Now you got it!”
Our condolences to the whole family. Aunt Betty was a wonderful, down to earth, compassionate woman and she will be missed greatly by all who knew her. We will especially miss her wry sense of humor and sitting with her at the family reunions……we were always thankful to her for “adopting” Uncle Ralph and the rest of the clan so lovingly. When I think of bravery- Betty comes to mind and always will.
My thoughts & prayers are with Betty’s family during this difficult time & always. My mom( Donna Whitford ) was a nursing classmate of Betty & our families had a lot of picnics & get togethers as we were growing up. It’s been along time since I’ve seen any of the family but think of them. I’m sure Betty & my mom are reunited with God & no more sickness. May God give you all peace & comfort now & always.
