Jerry J. DelBalso, 69, of Warren, PA., died Saturday afternoon, November 9, 2013 at U.P.M.C. Hamot, Erie, PA. after a brief illness. He was born October 4, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI. He was son of the late Dr. Jerry J. and Katherine Blemm DelBalso.
Jerry was a Warren area resident since 1999 and was formerly of Westfield, N.Y. He graduated from Onondaga Community College in 1964 and graduated from Cornell University in 1966 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. He had been employed with Welch Juice Co. and Better Baked of North East, PA. and retired from Pellegrino Foods of Warren, PA. After retiring he was employed as a school bus driver with Warren Bus Lines. He had a strong love for Antiques and he and his wife, are current owner and operator of “Off the Beaten Path” antique store, Warren, PA. He enjoyed duck carving and in his younger years, he coached youth baseball in the Westfield, N.Y. area. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Ethel Tomaino DelBalso whom he married September 30, 2000 in Hamilton, N.Y. 3 Children – Joseph E. DelBalso of Baltimore, MD, Christine A. Zernick and husband, John of Shaker Heights, OH., Patricia M. Wetterhahn and husband, Jon M. of Clayton, N.Y. and their Mother – Maureen DelBalso, 2 Stepsons – Russell Anderson and Andrew Ryan both of Warren, PA., 1 Sister – Nancy DelBalso of Bouckville, N.Y., 5 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Sister – Katherine VanTassel, 1 Brother – Jack DelBalso, 1 Granddaughter – Nicole Wetterhahn.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Redeemer R.C. Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard, Pastor of St. Titus R.C. Church, Titusville, PA. Heartfelt condolences to Ethel and the children on Jerry’s untimely passing. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and co-workers at Off the Beaten Path Antique Store and the Allegheny Book Mart. I remember one long and tiring day when Jerry & I traveled to Akron to pick up antiques from my brother’s home and his patient amusement as my brother frantically tried to squeeze in just one more chair onto the packed load. Lots of good memories to treasure. You all are in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time.
