Julia Ellen Scalise Papalia, 96, a resident of the Rouse Warren County Home, Youngsville, PA., and formerly of Warren, PA., died at her residence, Tuesday evening, September 12, 2017 after an extended illness. She was born February 15, 1921 in Clarendon, PA. She was the daughter of Casper D. and Jennie Castano Scalise. Julia was a lifelong Warren area resident and a 1939 graduate of Warren High School. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church where she volunteered many years at the Church school library. She was also a former CCD teacher, member of the Altar Rosary Society, former treasurer for Catholic Daughters, former historian for the Warren Garden Club, volunteered at Warren General Hospital and the Warren Senior Center. Julia enjoyed her family gatherings, sporting events of her children and grandchildren, reading and gardening.

Julia is survived by 2 sons – Dennis C. Papalia of Pittsburgh, PA, and David C. Papalia and wife, Sue of Warren, PA; 5 Grandchildren – Zack (Kate) Papalia and Kyle Papalia, all of State College, PA; Brittany Papalia of Madison, Wisconsin, Frank (Lisa) Waronsky of Mechanicsburg, PA and daughters Kara and Paige, and Clint (Amanda) Waronsky of Sarver, PA and their son Christian and daughter Mya, her beloved niece and caretaker Jenny Scalise, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Carl F. Papalia whom she married June 18, 1941 in Clarendon, PA, and who passed away on Oct. 14, 1992, 1 Daughter – Carol Waronsky who passed away August 2, 2010. 4 Sisters – Romaine Frontera, Josephine Frontera, Gertrude Watson, Minnie Gerardi and 2 Brothers – Ange and Raymond Scalise.

Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA, on Sunday, September 17, 2017, from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00AM Monday at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue West, Warren, PA, with Fr. Richard Tomasone, Pastor, officiating.
