John Douglas Lindberg, 71, of Warren, PA, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Warren General Hospital, Warren, PA, following an illness of many years.

Born on October 3, 1946 in Warren, PA, John was the fifth son of the late Carl Leander and Leah Henderson Lindberg. He was a graduate of Warren Area High School and had formerly lived in Detroit, MI, Athens, GA, Akron, OH, and New Brighton and Waterford, PA, returning to Warren in 2001. John retired as bookseller at the Allegheny Book Mart in Warren. He worked for many years in Detroit in hospital purchasing and materials management. He served as construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity in Detroit and as executive director of the Habitat affiliate in Athens, GA. He also served as vice-president of the Habitat Board of Directors in Warren, PA. Over the years, John served as a substitute teacher in various locations and worked both medical and public libraries. John was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity and Phi Eta Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. He was active in choirs and orchestras since his youth in Warren and was an early member of the Warren Boy Choir and sang in church choirs wherever he was living. John was also a former member of the Warren Civic Orchestra. As a conscientious objector he served two years alternative service in an inner city hospital in Detroit, MI.

John was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Warren, where he sang in the Chancel Choir, served on the Administrative Council, was a member of the Faithbuilder’s Sunday school class and served on the funeral luncheon committee.

John is survived by one brother – Thomas A. (Elaine) Lindberg of West Chester, OH, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including Rev. George Johnson of Warren, PA. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers – David H., Stanley W., and Robert F. Lindberg. The Lindberg brothers were the first family of five boys who all became Eagle Scouts.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Pennsylvania Avenue East, Warren, PA, with Rev. William R. Beatty, Pastor, officiating. Those attending are invited to a luncheon following the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Weiler Cemetery.
