Howard R. Thompson, 89, of Clarendon, PA. died Thursday evening, January 24, 2013 at the Warren Manor Nursing Home. He was born May 17, 1923 in Warren, PA to the late Dewey and Ella Bradway Thompson. Howard was a longtime resident of Clarendon and a 1941 graduate of Youngsville High School. Howard had served with the U.S. Army during World War II as Technical Sergeant, serving with the 3rd Infantry Regiment, serving in Northern France. He earned a American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal. He was entered into the WWII Memorial Registry of Remembrance. He was employed with former National Forge Co., as a general foreman retiring after 43 years service. He was a former member of St. Clara’s R.C. Church and a member of their former parish council and a member of St. Anthony of Peduca R.C. Church, Tiona, PA. where he served as a commentator. Knights of Columbus member. Served as Past Commander of the Clarendon V.F.W. Post 314 and treasurer of the Clarendon V.F.W. Home Association, a member of the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department, past secretary of the Clarendon Borough Council. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his 4 children – Candy Wescott of Youngsville, PA., Robert Thompson and wife, Mary of Pittsburgh, PA., Penny Moore and husband, Don of Warren, PA., Kerry Thompson of Clarendon, PA., 10 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christina R. Pusateri Thompson who died August 15, 2008 whom he married August 14, 1943, 2 Sisters – Edna Hultman, Marilyn Jordan, 3 Brothers – Ronald, Bob and his twin brother, Harold Thompson. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where a vigil service will be conducted at Sunday at 3:45 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday, January 28, 2013 at St. Joseph R.C. Church at 10:00 A.M. by Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Ascension in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Clarendon/Sheffield V.F.W. funeral honor guards and the U.S. Army personnel.
