David William Taylor, 70, of Warren, PA. passed away Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous and very determined battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, and his beloved dog, Watson, who he named after the surgeon that saved his life at the beginning of his battle. Dave was born in Corry, Pa and resided in Warren since 1969. He was a 1961 graduate of Corry High School. He was employed by former Mahan Motors for almost 40 years, beginning as a salesman and promoting to sales manager until the business was purchased by Jones Chevrolet in 2010. He was extremely devoted to his work and enjoyed and looked forward to yearly trips to Las Vegas with his close friends, and occasional trips to the Salamanca casino. Prior to his illness, he thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, riding snowmobiles, his ATV, cutting wood and mowing the lawn. Dave was a former member of the Warren Moose Lodge 109. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, earning several medals for jungle warfare in the Panama Canal, the Bay of Pigs Incident, and two and one half years with the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France. While with the Embassy, his duties included security for many European and American dignitaries and Presidents. During his tour in France, he took the opportunity to travel to many European countries, and while in Spain he participated in the “Running of the Bulls” and kept the sword for reminiscing with his family. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Paul (Red) and Marguerite Neylon Taylor, brother-in-law, John Wascak, sister-in-law, Sandi Shannon and his wife’s parents, Angelo Ceriola and Bernadine Ceriola Goyda. He is survived by his wife, Cheri Ceriola Taylor whom he married October 21, 1967 in Warren, PA. and in 2012, celebrated their 45th Anniversary, his devoted children, Scott A. Taylor and wife, Pam, Cheyelle N. Couse and husband, Justin all of Warren, Pa., 4 grandchildren – Karly and Hanna Taylor, Owen and Lincoln Couse were the light of his life, and he enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible, and looked forward to their visits. Dave is also survived by one brother, John Taylor, Corry, PA., four sisters – Mary Lou Bober and husband, Gabe, Fanwood, N.J., Martha Taylor, Erie, PA., Barbara Wascak, Mentor, OH, and Judy Goodwill and husband, Paul, Corry, PA., several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, PA. on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. where a funeral service will be conducted Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11am with Rev. Marcus Briggs, Chaplain of the Warren General Hospital, officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by members of the John Gertsch Memorial Vietnam Post and the U.S. Marine Corp. personnel.
