Constance M. “Connie” Burd, 86, of Grove City, PA, and formerly of Russell, PA, passed away at her home on Friday afternoon, January 4, 2019. Connie was born on September 27, 1932 in Curwensville, PA, the daughter of the late James William and Emily June Ross Hickok.

Connie was a graduate of Osceola High School and later graduated from the Philipsburg State Hospital with her Registered Nursing degree, working the majority of her career at Warren State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse. While living in Grove City for the past 4 years, she attended Tower Presbyterian Church. Many hours were spent laughing and traveling around the area with her friends from College View Apartments. While living in Russell, she was a faithful and supportive member of the Russell United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was active in church life, participating in her beloved bible studies, Sunday School, choir, and exercise groups to name a few. Connie loved her friends and spent the best part of her life socializing with her 12 friends club, sewing club, and circle clubs. She was very active with her children and grandchildren.

Connie is survived by her 4 children – Susan Pulsney and her husband, Gene, of Altoona, PA, Dan Burd and his wife, Cynthia, of Port Orange, FL, Kathleen Ayers and her husband, David, of Grove City, PA, and Patricia Jones and her husband, Tom, of West Bloomfield, MI; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her husband, William B. “Bill” Burd, whom she married on January 30, 1954 in Osceola Mills, PA, and who died on August 8, 2010; and 2 brothers – James and Robert Hickok.

Friends may call at the Russell United Methodist Church, 17 N. Main Street, Russell, PA, on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 10:00am – 11:00 am, at which time a funeral and committal service will be held with Rev. Jerome Kennedy, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to place a memorial may do so to the Russell United Methodist Church Building Fund.
