Adelaide E. Welsh, 93, a resident of Cambridge of Warren, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

Born on December 8, 1920 in Denver, CO she was the daughter of the late William and Esther Lawson Ettinger.

Adelaide was a longtime resident of Warren. From 1943 to 1945 she served with the WAVES during World War II. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Warren, serving as a Sunday school teacher and as superintendent. She also served as custodian and was the first woman to serve on the church council. She was a member of the church Building Committee when the new church was being built and was past president of the LCW. Adelaide was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was active with the Warren PTA. She enjoyed solitaire, cribbage and listening to the barbershoppers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are four daughters, Patricia A. (Ronald) Osche, Judy (Chuck) Travis and Jacque Shoup, all of Warren, PA, and Janelle E. Welsh of San Diego, CA, nine grandchildren, Charles “Chip” (Jennifer) Phillips, II of Busti, NY, Jody Shoup and Jamie Shoup, both of Lexington, KY, Kyle (Christine) Shoup of Crestview, FL, Steven Kibbey of Warren, PA, Teri (Mike) Deal of Munhall, PA, Andy Travis of Warren, PA, Brandon (Yvette) Gaines and Kelley Gaines, both of San Diego, CA, seven great-grandchildren, Devyn and Ethan Phillips, Deanna and Everett Shoup, Benji Deal, and Colin and Ava Gaines, two sisters, Autumn (Dan) Doherty of Warren, PA and JoAnn (Jerry) Dorion of Tiona, PA, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Adelaide was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Welsh, Jr., whom she married on April 17, 1947 in Warren, PA. He passed away on December 20, 1988. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Erica Gaines, a son-in-law, Charles E. Phillips, and a sister, Joyce York.

Friends may call at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Avenue, Warren, PA on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev.
